UP on Oregon Trunk

During the time the Cascades route was closed due to a massive landslide, Union Pacific ran the HKRV via the Oregon Trunk with power on each end.  The crew would run to The Dalles.  Then a new crew would take over on the other end, and head for Bend and southward.  Here, the HKRV travels through the short tunnel and toward Moody after crossing the Celilo Bridge.

Eastbound in the Gorge

From the early 2000s, this photo shows a typical Union Pacific merchandise freight eastbound near Biggs in the Columbia Gorge. Power was a pair of SD40-2s as opposed to today's SD70Ms and C44s of various configurations.

Alcos in Missouri

Arkansas & Missouri is one of the few railroads to only run Alcos (and MLWs).    In September 2002, the yard in Springdale, Arkansas, looked like this with T6 #15, C630 #70 and other units including an RS1 and a C424.
